Amber Tognazzo and Helen Nicholson made the most of their professional development awards and lapped up the learnings and networking opportunities at the AIOH Conference in Perth this month.
Amber attended two full days of CES looking at exposure to radiation as well as how best to “amplify your influence” and be a great communicator. The importance of top-notch communication was a strong theme at the conference this year – particularly important as respirable silica exposure remains a critical topic, with hygienists across the ditch facing the same challenges helping stone benchtop businesses control their dust exposures to safe levels.
Helen enjoyed presentations on heat stress management, radiation in deep space and the value in using a simple dust lamp in ventilation assessments. She was also pleased to learn more about the respirator fit-testing training programme that is due to roll out in Australia and NZ next year. This will incorporate learning from the UK Fit2Fit scheme and is focussed on improving fit tester competencies.
Helen and Amber are very grateful to Air Matters, NZOHS, HASANZ and 3M for their generous funding of this professional development opportunity.
